New Kit, Sunny Days and Haggis

Hi all,

So another week has flown by, scary to think tomorrow is Febuary.

This week has been mixed weather wise. Over Thursday night we had a huge snow fall which lead to Friday being a fantastic powder day out on the slopes, even with some sunny spells too.

Last weeks guests were mostly Scottish and keeping to their traditions when normally back home, on Saturday night we had a Burns night super. They traveled armed with haggis which was served with neeps and tatties. The men dressed in kilts and Robert Burns Poetry books on the table, a good evening was in store. Unfortunately we couldn't find any bagpipes in Morzine available for the evening so they all played O Flower of Soctland on kazoos to walk the haggis in to! The haggis was then addressed and everyone raised a toast with Wiskey before the dinner began.

The Winter Olympics start next week in Sochi and in case we get a last minute call up we thought we would have our ski boots prepared and got these Union Jack buckles.

Sadly at the weekend my snowboard came to the end of its life. After a sad ride down in the cable car a shopping trip started for a new one. I tried Ants DC Ply board on Tuesday and loved it. We went into a local snowboarding shop and fortunately they had the ladies equivilant called the DC Biddy in my size. Wednesday morning I did try out another but it wasn't quite the same at the DC board, so I am now the proud owner of a new snowboard and having a lot of fun on it.
I don't have the heart to throw my old one away, so we're going to find some old Ski poles and turn it into a coffee table or something!

Today has been one of the best of the season so far. With fantastic pistes and clear blue skies we headed for Switzerland. The perfect opportunity for some action photos. Taking both the GoPro and Ant's SLR we traversed and climbed to a remote untouched spot with the Dents Du Midi in the background. Here is some of our photos on and off piste.

Another weekend is here, hope everyone is well back home, bye for now.

Go Penguins!! And other short stories

Hi Everyone!

Fresh snow
It's been super snowy the past couple of days and the weather is set to continue with snow forecast most of this week.

Ice hockey
Last week we went to watch the ice hockey at the local ice rink... Which just happens to be right below where we live! The match started out close but after the first third the home team (Morzine Penguins) pulled away to win with a pretty big lead. It's so much fun to watch with a fast pace and some hilarious goal celebrations.

Dinner-monday
Over the past few days we have had a very quiet chalet and so we made tho most of it with Only one if us going in to serve dinner. On Monday Ant stayed at home and cooked a surprise dinner which was a tour of different countries!
We had:
Onion and Camembert tart (French)
Lasagne (Italian)
Home made burgers (American)
Curry (Indian)
Paella (Spanish)
Ginger and soy beef (Chinese)
Potato dumplings (German)

And tonight we are having home made fish and chips with a desperadoes beer batter. A dish from home.

Half pipe / snow skate
With the extra snowfall we decided to buy a snow skate with our tips money. It's lots of fun but pretty hard to even balance on. So naturally the first thing ant wants to do is make a half pipe in the garden of the chalet. (So far I have only managed to fall over. Ant) So maybe we will get some practice and some videos later in the year.

Mont Chery
Today we went over to ski mont Chery with Sam and Lorraine, which Ant never got to last year. Here is a funny clip from that today.

Whilst we were up there we visited "la grande Ourse" who make an amazing hot chocolate and have a great selection of fantastic made from scratch dishes on their menu. We just tried the crumble today however they do an evening on the mountain where you get picked up and ferried to the restaurant via some sort of snow truck to have a 5 course dinner.

That's all for now catch you all soon.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone.

We had a great New Years Eve here with the guests with a lovely meal and fun atmosphere in the bar afterwards. We left just before midnight as on New Years day we were up, car packed and on the road at 5.30am heading to Tignes.

Ant's Uncle, Aunty and Cousin were on holiday for the week and we wanted to go visit and also ski somewhere new. Arriving at 9.30, with clear blue skies, we were ready for a great ski day ahead. We skied around Val d'isere and Tignes all day, exploring some on piste and off piste, and with it being such a vast area by the end of the day we were shattered.

Here is us all having a hot chocolate in the sunshine.

Since Christmas we have managed to meet up with Ant's friends James and Paige, who are also doing a season in Morzine, and all there friends. It's been great to board with other snowboarders.
The weather this week has been warm in town, but just after New Year we had a lovely snow fall for 2 days up on the mountain. So much so that on Monday we tried to go off piste and soon sunk! The first picture here is where we hiked to, and the exciting view ahead... The second is me after realising it was a little to deep.

Before we came out here we bought our selves some ski and snowboard wax so that we could service our own skis, with a little help from borrowing mums old travel iron! It's so much fun to prepare our kit for the next days adventures.

As we came home tonight it was just starting to rain in town, which can only mean one thing on the mountain for tomorrow...Fresh Powder! Videos to follow...

Bye for now,

Bex
